Workmanship · Colombo
Most waterproofing failures in Colombo are workmanship failures, not product failures. That makes choosing waterproofing contractors in Colombo a bigger decision than choosing the system. We install with our own applicator teams, and this page shows how we work on site and what to check in any contractor. For the systems themselves, see our waterproofing systems guide.
A thought experiment
Take two identical roofs and the same premium membrane. The first will still be dry in a decade. The second will leak within two monsoons - and the product will be blamed. The gap between them is entirely workmanship.
It is also why a manufacturer will not back a warranty on an installation carried out outside the specification. Their product only performs inside the conditions it was tested under.

Our crews
Our waterproofing work is carried out by our own teams rather than subcontracted to whoever is available. The crews train on the specific systems we supply, so they know the consumption rates and curing behaviour. The material and installation cover then sit with one accountable party.
Specialist systems such as polyurea need plural-component spray equipment and trained operators. It is not a system a general contractor can pick up, and it should never be quoted by anyone who has not installed it before.
Trained on our systems
Consumption rates and curing behaviour known, not guessed.
One accountable party
Material and installation cover with the same team.
No dispute gap
One inspection when something needs checking.
Method
Four stages, in this order. During installation we control the things that actually decide the outcome - achieved film thickness rather than material dispatched, and curing conditions rather than the calendar.
Substrate, moisture state, existing system, falls and ponding, cracks, junctions and every penetration.
A proposal stating the build-up, the consumption rate per coat and the detailing at each junction type.
Substrate moisture at application, achieved film thickness, reinforcement at details, curing between coats.
Flood test where geometry permits, then the as-installed specification, warranty and maintenance schedule.
Use it on anyone
Whether you appoint us or someone else, these questions separate a specification-led contractor from a rate-per-square-foot one. Ask all six, and write down the answers.
A contractor who hesitates on question four cannot issue a manufacturer-backed warranty. That is worth knowing before you sign, not after the first leak.

Coverage
We work across Colombo and the Western Province on residential, commercial, hospitality and industrial buildings. Supply-only is available where a contractor is already appointed, with method statements and consumption rates - see Waterproofing supplier in Colombo.
Materials and finishes we have supplied include Marina Square Residencies and Spencer Tower, two Colombo high-rises where exposure shapes every specification.
Quick answers
Ask for the achieved consumption rate at handover, and compare it with material quantities used. A contractor working to specification records it; one stretching material will be vague about it.
Photos show the surface, but not whether an old membrane has lost its bond or how much repair sits underneath. Those are the biggest cost variables, so quoting blind would mean guessing on your money.
Then we say so. Water often enters through a junction outside the area you asked about. Finding the real entry point during the survey is cheaper for you than waterproofing the wrong surface.
Read our warranty and after-care page and Credentials and certifications before appointing anyone.
Warning signs
You can learn a lot about a contractor before they set foot on your roof. Watch for these six signs in any quotation, including ours. Each one points to a shortcut that usually shows up as a leak.
No breakdown means you cannot see what has been left out. Preparation, primer and detailing are usually the missing lines.
If the quote never says whether the old system stays or goes, the contractor has not decided - or has not looked.
Without a rate per square metre, there is no way to check the membrane went on at the thickness that makes it work.
Measuring only the flat roof makes a quote look cheaper and leaves the most leak-prone areas out of scope.
Verbal assurances are not cover. If the terms are not written down, you cannot rely on them when something fails.
Good signs
A specification-led contractor asks before they price. If a contractor asks none of these, they are quoting a surface they have not understood - and the price will change once they do.
And after what kind of rain - a light shower, or only prolonged downpours? The pattern points to the entry point.
With what system, and by whom? The answer decides whether the old layer can stay or must come off.
As a terrace, for water tanks, or for equipment? Use decides whether a wearing layer is needed.
Residents, access rules and working hours all shape how and when the work can run.
And is that before the monsoon? Timing decides which systems are realistic at all.
We ask all five during the survey, and the answers go straight into the specification. That is how the quotation you receive matches the roof you actually have.
